    Bali Trip 07 - I'm NOT a tourist!

Bali Bali Bali -- it's a really nice place to be in... If you seriously in need of a vacation, Bali is the most relaxing place to be in! I say this base on experience. Haha.. Quite overwhelmed with all the things going on in my hectic schedule. I really desperately need a break! Thank God for Bali!

I just got back from Bali earlier this afternoon -- A tremendously blessed break!

The SUN and the BEACH and the SHOPPING and the FOOD are the main factors that give me good vacation experience!

    1. As you all might have known already by now, I love to tan. I don't want my skin to be fair, so I go tanning. That is one reason why I love the SUN. This time I had only 2 days of tanning -- well, make it 1 day coz I didn't really stay out that much. I got a good darken skin - tho still not very tan. At least some people can see the difference. I did become a crab for like 2 days. As I'm writing this, I still think my skin is reddish. Oh well, THank God for the SUN anyway.

My last day in Bali (Nusa Dua Beach Hotel) I went tanning with my sister. Everyone in the pool and beach started looking at us in shock. Most of the hotel guests there were Caucasians! Basically, there were staring at us because we were the only Asian to step foot on the beach and TANNING! Muahahhaha...

    2. Anything can happen in the BEACH. From playing with the salt water to the numerous times picture taking. It's fun! I got tons of pictures with the sand and the ocean! I so love it! But here's something new that happen to me in Kuta Beach:

Once upon a time, there were 3 girls enjoying the breeze in Kuta Beach. Two girls were Indonesian-Chinese and the other is a Korean. They were taking pictures with the sand and the sea when suddenly, there was this weird guy with only a white sleeveless top and a *SORRY* underwear. This weird man came up to the Korean to take picture with her. His friends started joining. She was confuse and did not understand what he was trying to say because he speak Indonesian. Trying to help, another girl with more attitude came to the rescue! And she said, "No, gak usah" (No, no need). The three girls started moving away from the group of weird guys - disgustedly. The guys, of course, kept on tailing them until the girl with attitude give them the "fierce look". Finally, they are off the girls' back. VICTORY!

As they continue to take pictures and enjoying the scenery, another group of people came, and this time it was a big Indonesian family. They were talking and whispering among each other, but staring at these three girls. The Korean went to take pictures of the sea alone. One girl with the big retro shades were taking pictures while standing up. The other girl was sitting down on the sands and looking at her cellphone. Suddenly, one lady from the family group came up to the girl with shades and ask for a picture. For sure, all three girls were shocked! Surprised, the girl asked, "What for?" The lady couldn't answer, but she did say, "Aduh! Ga ngerti lagi. Dia ngomong apa?" (Oh no! Don't understand. What did she say?) Then the lady told the girl that she wanted a picture with her -- "Kita dari Makassar. Picture!" (We are from Makassar. Picture!)

So they took pictures. Out of nowhere, the family started to gather around the girl who was sitting down with her cellphone. They started to take pictures with her -- they even started to put their arms around her! Then the whole family started taking turns in taking picture with the girl. Even the photographer, who was the "leader" of the group, wanted to join in! They all looked excited. They even took pictures with cellphone camera! The girl just sit there quietly and smiling sort of confused.

After they said 'thank you', they went on whispering to each other. "Kita bisa foto sama orang Jepang! Cantik ya! Ada bukti kalo kita ke Bali!" (We can take pictures with Japanese! Beautiful! There's proof that we went to Bali!) At that point, the girls laughed out loud!

    -----END-----

Here's the point of the story and why it's funny. The girl with attitude and sitting down with cellphone is me! Haha...Basically, when the whole family group came up to me and started to take pic of me, I'm shocked! I'm like thinking if they mistaken me for a celebrity! Worst, they mistaken an Indo-Chinese girl with a JAPANESE! OMG! They thought I'm Japanese and I can't speak INDO! But that whole time, I SOOOOO understand what they are saying. That is why I didn't say anything but just SMILE. That is at least the most polite thing I could do. Because if I seriously reveal myself as Indonesian, they will surely be SO embarass! So, I decided to play along. haha.. Oh well, they think I'm a tourist.. Wallllaaaoooo!!!

Throughout my 4 days and 3 nights in Bali people do mistaken me for Japanese. Everywhere I go, they would first greet me in Japanese -- "Mase-mase" or "Konnichiwa" or "Arigato" or "Aishiteru"! I'm like, what?! Do I even look like a Jap? I'm serious when I say that EVERYWHERE I go people say that. Even the last day when I wanted to borrow towel from the swimming pool area, they guy in charge asked me in English, "Where are you from? Japan?" I'm like "NO, I'm Indonesian." And the guy with his colleagues laughed in shock. They still didn't believe that I'm Indonesian.

FINE! I accept the fact that I don't look Indonesian at all. As long as I'm still looking ASIAN, it's good enough. OH, I even asked my mom whether I got Japanese blood or not. YES, that is how serious I went because of what other people said. She said I'm pure Chinese ethnicity. Oh well, I'm just proud to be ASIAN! If even they think I'm a Jap, nevermind. I'm a look-alike JAP that loves to tan -- no real Jap i see in Bali ever did this. HAHA..

    3. Tanah Lot and all those factory outlets are the best place to SHOP! Good bargain and good quality. Yay! This trip, I really really really enjoyed my time shopping - i devote my 2 first 2 days in Bali just to shop. HAHAHA...I bought a lot of stuff til my bag is so fat! LOL... The good thing about shopping in Tanah Lot is that you can get a really really good price. I call it the power of bargaining. Thank God for my Mom! She bargained to a really really good price. Imagine! A Bali sandal from the price of Rupiah 30,000 can go down to Rupiah 10,000! My Mommy's the greatest in the shopping world! =]

    4. I so love Nasi Wardani--traditional Balinese dish. I ate a lot in Bali! Pasta! Salmon! Salad! Rice! Cakes! Pizza! WAAAHH! The FOOD is good. Not only the taste that matters, the atmosphere also matters! The restaurants I went to were the most famous and with best scenery in Bali. I love it, and the price is affordable!

I got a chance to come for one Open House for a school in Bali. The principal asked me to share my testimony of being a homeschooler and accepted in the University in Singapore. Well, I said what I really go through and how homeschooling had change my character. The people who came to the Open House were around 40 people. They all responded well -- I'm glad they did! My Mom was the main speaker that day. I'm glad I got the chance to also share my experience in homeschooling to the new parents that wanted to homeschool their kids. It's something new, but it's something worth to take a leap for.

To round up, I enjoy my time there. Spending time with my Mom, my sister and my friend. It's been a great week. I'm glad I'm blessed and I'm glad I can bless others as well. And as always, writings without pictures are more difficult to digest. I posted some of the pictures of my trip to Bali here to give you an idea of the beautiful Bali I've been talking about. ENJOY!
