    Back to Singapore again...

    I'm back..in Singapore...

    Part of me = happy

    Part of me = sad

    Reason?

Missing Jakarta too much..or maybe, missing the lovely people there..or even, missing my loved ones there..

When I set foot in Singapore, which is like the "hallway" to the terminal from the aircraft, I feel like in a new place. I'm just gone for like 2.5 months, but I just felt so alienized by the environment. I started hearing people speaking with a distinguished accent again (which is Singlish, of course).

I also got to see multi-cultural people again. Not that Jakarta is not a multi-cultural place. It's just that, for some reason, Russell Peters came to my mind when I entered the terminal. It's funny coz the line from the show that kept on ringing in my mind is "I'll do it! I'll do it!" with that Indian accent. Funny show, really.

I became a Superwoman today. Usually I don't carry HUGE and HEAVY luggage when I'm travelling unless all my family go together. This time, I overshot the baggage limit of 5kg! Dang.. So i had to carry some of my stuff from my hand carry and then checked in the 'supposedly' hand carry luggage. Which means, I'm carrying approx 10kg stuff with me to the aircraft. My laptop and other heavy stuff are included! Not only that, so that means, I carry 20kg of my checked in baggage too, u know! I felt like exercising my hand muscle! Arh.. Now I know, life is not easy without my brother or a nma to carry my things.. Hix hix.. Travelling without them is a nightmare. Thank God for the boys in my family. Love 'em loads..

Anyway, God still show His favor when I'm travelling alone with my sister. We weren't late for the flight though we woke up late and it was raining real hard (imagine the traffic in jakarta every morning, plus rain). And then the check-in counter..Then the Struggle of getting Free Fiscal which I got it..(but I don't really need to struggle coz they didn't ask me anything. They just look at my passport and stamped it.) It's very nice...haha..Favor, u see.. Then I board the plane and safely landed in Singapore.. and the story continues to the beginning of this blog... LOL...

Lots and lots of stories before this happen. (See my previous blogs)

Vacation Bible School [VBS] 2007 event -- event for kids ages 5 - 12 years old; held for 5 days straight, started in the morning -- is officially over! Whoa..i'm so happy that i actually join this event -- as the helper. I signed up to be in the music ministry. The music coordinator wanted me to lead the praise and worship! I was so honored by that [I co-lead in last year's VBS]. This experience is totally unbelievable!

I LOVE it to the max!

There were like more thank 175 kids show up. It's so crowded! But that's the fun thing! We got to have fun with more people! Yeay! My team did a drama and guess what? We won the Best Cast Award! Hahaha.. Cute actors and actresses, I would say.

Anyway, in VBS we usually sing original songs. Last year, my sis and I wrote the theme song - "Kings and Priests". This year the theme song - "Ready, Set, Go!" - is written by my faithful guitarist, Yoshua! The theme songs basically talks about the theme of the whole event. My brother also co-wrote a song with me - "Living for You" this year. We also had an original worship song last year - "I Am" that we sung this year too. Yoshua and I actually wrote many other songs but we didn't get a change to sing that in this year's VBS because the kids would have a hard time learning many new songs in 5 days. So we stick to 4 original songs this year. Wait, we did sang another original song for the first 2 days - "Pour Out", but we figured it's a rather difficult song for the kids. We also sang "Royalty", "Here I Am" and "Worship Medley" which is not our original songs. Nonetheles, I am just so happy that the songs are really powerful and prophetic! God's Presence is so strong during the 5 days of the event.

The kids were amazing especially the last 3 days! They got hold of the songs so quickly! We were amazed that the kids were so excited during the praise and worship! We don't even need to tell them to come in front of the stage anymore. They were just very enthusiastic during the whole event! The kids were like jumping, screaming, dancing, clapping and just being free the whole time! Especially the last day! I basically didn't sing at all! I just do fill ins and let the kids and singers sing the lyrics! THEY DID SUCH A GREAT JOB! Also, I got this year's praise and worship recorded -- LIVE! I'm so excited for next year!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

There was this 1 kid - a boy like around 7-8 years old. He was new to VBS, and he can't speak English. Btw, all the songs we sang and the main language during VBS is English. Anw, back to this boy. I noticed the first day of VBS he kept on looking at me. I lead most of the songs during the praise and worship.
    * On the second day, I noticed he was very focused in the praise and worship like lifting up his hands and all. And he always smiled at me everytime we caught eye contact -- I smiled back, of course!
    * The third day, he still kept on looking at me, and this time I noticed that he always followed my every move on stage. The other weird thing was that he started following me around. I was kind of confused so I told my guitarist, Hiro, and bass player, Petra, about me developing a fan. For sure, they laughed and thought I was joking and too confident.
    * The fourth day, this boy started to follow me around even more! He even followed me when I tied my shoes! I got kinda freak out coz it's like -- omg! stalker! -- kind of thing. haha.. During the praise and worship, which lasted like 20-30 min everyday, I asked both Hiro and Petra to see whether that boy is following my every movement or not. After we're done singing the songs, Hiro came up to me and said, "Dudette, it's true! He followed your every move! That's so cool!" By that time, Petra came up to me and said, "You have a fan! He did exactly what you did on stage." I was like "..... OMG! I have a fan!" LOL... Basically, the word spread -- some thru words, some thru people's eyes. HAHA..
    * The funny thing happened on the last day of the event. On previous days, I noticed him follwing me around with a piece of paper on his hand. I wasn't really bothered to talk to him much because he was not in my group. But I did give him a smile and nice hug eveytime he came up to greet me. You see, I never noticed him in the morning if he didn't stand right IN FRONT of me every praise and worship. His spot was center stage and in between the two monitors in front of me. He always stood on that spot! THE BAND NOTICED IT! HAHA.. Anw, the last day, he came to give me a hand shake when I went down to the canteen. He got so happy that he smiled really big and went on to tell his friend! I was like "That's cute." So to make him happier, I took out my camera and asked Yoshua, who was there playing ping pong, to take a picture of us. He got so happy that he put the best smile of his - at least that's what I perceived. LOL... After that, he went to his friends again to tell them what just happened. Then he came back with a piece of paper that he had been holding all along and showed it to me. There I saw my name "Adelene" with the words "Phone Number" under it. He asked for my PHONE NUMBER! I'm like, "Kid, I don't live here." He still insisted to get my number. I told him I live in Singapore, but he still wanted my number. I hesitated at first coz I normally don't give me number around especially to strangers. I'm afraid this kid would call me nonstop if I gave him my Indo number. So I gave him my Spore number. It's kinda impossible for him to call me there. Then I started to walk away. He came up to me again and asked me about computer! I was like, "Ok, I can give you my email. You can write me there." He was like, "Thank you! I will surely want to write you a letter!" Then I walked away again. This time I quickly ran to Petra, Yoshua and Atha to tell them what just happened. They were all like, "Whooaaa! Bull's eye!! He finally did it! You got an obsessed fan!" I was like "That's kinda creepy in a way. He asked my number!" They all started to laugh and clap, etc etc etc. I started to walk back to go up. Then this boy came up to me again and this time, he asked my address! I'm like "Whoa no. That's too far off. You just write me an email. That will be fine. Or you could come to next year's VBS to see me." He was so excited that he gave me a good grip hand shake, but I appreciated him very much. So I give him a good friendly hug. He was happy again.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThat's the obsessed fan!

Haha..oh well, kids will be kids. I'm glad that my life is an example - at least it impacted one kid's life. I'm sure many more because I saw many kids 'shyly' smile and say 'hi' to me everyday. Haha..I love them kids! Hehehe.. I'm so blessed by the ministry I'm in. I'm so grateful to have such a wonderful band and supervisors.

Oh yes, throughout this VBS week, I develop this weird syndrome during rehearsals. I always had to find a mic stand and sing with it. Maybe it's the songs that made me did it. It's so 'rockish' that I sometimes - out of nowhere - did the Chris Daughtry style [leaning towards the ground with my stand while singing]. I never knew I love the stand. Last time, it's a barrier. Now, I find it cool and interesting. Haha..
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketYea, I guess the music made me love the stand. Thanks guys.. =p

This week is the best because I got to sing for 1 week straight! It all started on Monday which was the VBS practice. THen it ended today after Sunday's second service. Yesterday, which is Saturday, I sang for 3 different events.
    1. VBS
    2. Music practice for Sunday service
    3. Rebirth service (youth)

Right now, my voice is super low. I lost my voice. So, as my friends said, it sounded sexy. Haha..whatever.. Anyway, kinda sad that this week is over because I'm starting to count days before I go back to Singapore. 4 more days! SHUCKS! hix hix.. I did hug many people to say goodbye to. It's so sad. I cried again - which is so funny coz I was gone like since 1 year ago. HAHA.. I'll miss many people this time as I built a stronger bond with the people I spend time with. I spent quality time with them. Like during the West Side Story production to the VBS! It's really my best summer ever!

Now, I would like to thank my band from the deepest part of my heart.

To Joey and Leah, thanks for co-leading with me! You guys are such a great help in getting the kids excited and in helping me save my voice! No other words to express how grateful I am to you both! I love you always!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

To Imma, Sam, Josh, Justin, thanks for helping me with the singing! You guys are the best backing vocalist to me! I'm touched to see you all are so excited in jumping like crazy with us song leader and co leads! Also, helping out to find the movements for the songs! I especially love seeing you all nonstop jumping during the last day's praise! Wheee!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

To Angel and Tim, thanks a bunch for helping me out with the keys. The creative notes and arrangements you put made the song more beautiful than ever! Sounded great in the recording! Amazing job in making the song sound FULL!

To Petra, thanks for the awesome bass sound! You kept that rhythm vibrating in our body! Hahaha.. [i forgive you for hitting my hand with you bass..haha..ya ya, it's accidental!] Thanks for your willingness to play the bass inside of the guitar this year. You still sounded great!

To JB, thanks for the constant beating of the drums. Though you were in pain coz you cut yourself with Petra's knife, you still persevere and give the best during the praise and worship! Awesome Job! I love you bro!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

To Hiro, thanks for willingly be my lead guitar though you only play like the fill ins. It's still amazing and sounded great in the recording and LIVE! Also, thx for being very professional - picking up the songs quickly -- by not turning it to sound like japanese music-- and being on time for rehearsals! Great solo in "Kings and Priests"! Looking forward to work with you in the next project!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

To Yoshua, thanks for your amazing song! I'm so proud of you! Also, thanks for always being my faithful guitarist since day 1 I founded you! Lol.. You know what I want and you just figure it out in a snap. "Living for You" sounded awesome with the arrangement in the verse! It's a great blessing to work with you all these years! We still need to collaborate again for original songs okay?

To Hara and Fini, thank you for supervising all the rehearsals! It's an honor to have such great examples to look up to. Thanks for the inputs and the best decision made!

Band, I love you all. Thank you for just being uniquely you. All of us are made to be united because God created each one of us with special talents -- like in the TV show Heroes..muahahha!! I'm really looking forward for our next project! Live concert anyone?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Last year's VBS was great. This year was awesome. What will next year be?? I'm so excited at the things that is going on in Indonesia. That is why I feel sad to leave now. Hix hix.. But I'll be back! I want to!

The other sad thing is that we didn't even take a BAND PICTURE at all! I'm dejected!!! I can't believe it! Oh man! Now I got to have like separate pictures of each musicians to make it like a band picture. Hahaha..Oh well.. We still have another project to do together! Yeay!

    Bali Trip 07 - I'm NOT a tourist!

Bali Bali Bali -- it's a really nice place to be in... If you seriously in need of a vacation, Bali is the most relaxing place to be in! I say this base on experience. Haha.. Quite overwhelmed with all the things going on in my hectic schedule. I really desperately need a break! Thank God for Bali!

I just got back from Bali earlier this afternoon -- A tremendously blessed break!

The SUN and the BEACH and the SHOPPING and the FOOD are the main factors that give me good vacation experience!

    1. As you all might have known already by now, I love to tan. I don't want my skin to be fair, so I go tanning. That is one reason why I love the SUN. This time I had only 2 days of tanning -- well, make it 1 day coz I didn't really stay out that much. I got a good darken skin - tho still not very tan. At least some people can see the difference. I did become a crab for like 2 days. As I'm writing this, I still think my skin is reddish. Oh well, THank God for the SUN anyway.

My last day in Bali (Nusa Dua Beach Hotel) I went tanning with my sister. Everyone in the pool and beach started looking at us in shock. Most of the hotel guests there were Caucasians! Basically, there were staring at us because we were the only Asian to step foot on the beach and TANNING! Muahahhaha...

    2. Anything can happen in the BEACH. From playing with the salt water to the numerous times picture taking. It's fun! I got tons of pictures with the sand and the ocean! I so love it! But here's something new that happen to me in Kuta Beach:

Once upon a time, there were 3 girls enjoying the breeze in Kuta Beach. Two girls were Indonesian-Chinese and the other is a Korean. They were taking pictures with the sand and the sea when suddenly, there was this weird guy with only a white sleeveless top and a *SORRY* underwear. This weird man came up to the Korean to take picture with her. His friends started joining. She was confuse and did not understand what he was trying to say because he speak Indonesian. Trying to help, another girl with more attitude came to the rescue! And she said, "No, gak usah" (No, no need). The three girls started moving away from the group of weird guys - disgustedly. The guys, of course, kept on tailing them until the girl with attitude give them the "fierce look". Finally, they are off the girls' back. VICTORY!

As they continue to take pictures and enjoying the scenery, another group of people came, and this time it was a big Indonesian family. They were talking and whispering among each other, but staring at these three girls. The Korean went to take pictures of the sea alone. One girl with the big retro shades were taking pictures while standing up. The other girl was sitting down on the sands and looking at her cellphone. Suddenly, one lady from the family group came up to the girl with shades and ask for a picture. For sure, all three girls were shocked! Surprised, the girl asked, "What for?" The lady couldn't answer, but she did say, "Aduh! Ga ngerti lagi. Dia ngomong apa?" (Oh no! Don't understand. What did she say?) Then the lady told the girl that she wanted a picture with her -- "Kita dari Makassar. Picture!" (We are from Makassar. Picture!)

So they took pictures. Out of nowhere, the family started to gather around the girl who was sitting down with her cellphone. They started to take pictures with her -- they even started to put their arms around her! Then the whole family started taking turns in taking picture with the girl. Even the photographer, who was the "leader" of the group, wanted to join in! They all looked excited. They even took pictures with cellphone camera! The girl just sit there quietly and smiling sort of confused.

After they said 'thank you', they went on whispering to each other. "Kita bisa foto sama orang Jepang! Cantik ya! Ada bukti kalo kita ke Bali!" (We can take pictures with Japanese! Beautiful! There's proof that we went to Bali!) At that point, the girls laughed out loud!

    -----END-----

Here's the point of the story and why it's funny. The girl with attitude and sitting down with cellphone is me! Haha...Basically, when the whole family group came up to me and started to take pic of me, I'm shocked! I'm like thinking if they mistaken me for a celebrity! Worst, they mistaken an Indo-Chinese girl with a JAPANESE! OMG! They thought I'm Japanese and I can't speak INDO! But that whole time, I SOOOOO understand what they are saying. That is why I didn't say anything but just SMILE. That is at least the most polite thing I could do. Because if I seriously reveal myself as Indonesian, they will surely be SO embarass! So, I decided to play along. haha.. Oh well, they think I'm a tourist.. Wallllaaaoooo!!!

Throughout my 4 days and 3 nights in Bali people do mistaken me for Japanese. Everywhere I go, they would first greet me in Japanese -- "Mase-mase" or "Konnichiwa" or "Arigato" or "Aishiteru"! I'm like, what?! Do I even look like a Jap? I'm serious when I say that EVERYWHERE I go people say that. Even the last day when I wanted to borrow towel from the swimming pool area, they guy in charge asked me in English, "Where are you from? Japan?" I'm like "NO, I'm Indonesian." And the guy with his colleagues laughed in shock. They still didn't believe that I'm Indonesian.

FINE! I accept the fact that I don't look Indonesian at all. As long as I'm still looking ASIAN, it's good enough. OH, I even asked my mom whether I got Japanese blood or not. YES, that is how serious I went because of what other people said. She said I'm pure Chinese ethnicity. Oh well, I'm just proud to be ASIAN! If even they think I'm a Jap, nevermind. I'm a look-alike JAP that loves to tan -- no real Jap i see in Bali ever did this. HAHA..

    3. Tanah Lot and all those factory outlets are the best place to SHOP! Good bargain and good quality. Yay! This trip, I really really really enjoyed my time shopping - i devote my 2 first 2 days in Bali just to shop. HAHAHA...I bought a lot of stuff til my bag is so fat! LOL... The good thing about shopping in Tanah Lot is that you can get a really really good price. I call it the power of bargaining. Thank God for my Mom! She bargained to a really really good price. Imagine! A Bali sandal from the price of Rupiah 30,000 can go down to Rupiah 10,000! My Mommy's the greatest in the shopping world! =]

    4. I so love Nasi Wardani--traditional Balinese dish. I ate a lot in Bali! Pasta! Salmon! Salad! Rice! Cakes! Pizza! WAAAHH! The FOOD is good. Not only the taste that matters, the atmosphere also matters! The restaurants I went to were the most famous and with best scenery in Bali. I love it, and the price is affordable!

I got a chance to come for one Open House for a school in Bali. The principal asked me to share my testimony of being a homeschooler and accepted in the University in Singapore. Well, I said what I really go through and how homeschooling had change my character. The people who came to the Open House were around 40 people. They all responded well -- I'm glad they did! My Mom was the main speaker that day. I'm glad I got the chance to also share my experience in homeschooling to the new parents that wanted to homeschool their kids. It's something new, but it's something worth to take a leap for.

To round up, I enjoy my time there. Spending time with my Mom, my sister and my friend. It's been a great week. I'm glad I'm blessed and I'm glad I can bless others as well. And as always, writings without pictures are more difficult to digest. I posted some of the pictures of my trip to Bali here to give you an idea of the beautiful Bali I've been talking about. ENJOY!
